YOUNGSTOWN - Elmer R. Slifka, 90, died at 6:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, in Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Boardman following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 19, 1922, in Youngstown.
Elmer retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Youngstown and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his daughters, Judy Ferguson of Austintown and Barbara Soles of Boardman; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Slifka; a daughter, Roseanne Goodall; three brothers; and two sisters.
Private family services will be held. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Greenhaven Cemetery in Canfield.
The Staton-Borowski Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
