A Lights of Love ceremony to kick off the beginning of the organization of the Liberty Relay for Life will be held Feb. 12 at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way.

The rally will begin at 6 p.m. with a luminaria ceremony scheduled at 6:45.

The public is invited to attend the event that will honor and remember loved ones who have battled cancer.

According to township officials, the ceremony is open to anyone who wants to learn more about Relay for Life and how to get involved.

The Liberty Relay for Life will be held May 17 and 18 at the township's Churchill Park.

The Relay for Life kick-off rally and Lights of Love celebration is an opportunity for everyone to come together to kick off the relay, officials said. All cancer survivors are invited to wear purple survivor shirts and those survivors attending will receive a special gift.

Luminaria will be sold for a donation of $10 each and Relay teams will be selling items to raise money for their teams.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out and take turns walking around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, the first evening of the event, participants light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a ceremony that honors cancer survivors as well as family and friends lost to the disease.
