What’s going on with city leaders?

January 27, 2013

DEAR EDITOR:

I am disgusted by the state of politics in my former hometown of Warren. The president of council Bob Dean and Councilman Alfred Novak are now trying to make an issue of late gifts and rumors of charity collecting impropriety.

According to the news reports, there was plenty of reasons why the gift was received late by the clerk. Reasons that would have been discovered had these two cared more about the gift than they did about trying to make other council members look bad.

What is going on with this insane behavior? Has Mr. Dean lost it? And why would Mr. Novak be so easily led into such a petty dispute? He is, after all, an adult with 20-plus years of council service. Is Mr. Novak really that worried about making sure his president likes him?

I do hope ethics charges are filed in this "case." It seems that plenty of council members have reason to file against Mr. Dean and perhaps Mr. Novak. Council is no place for such unhinged behavior. The city needs new leadership on council and it sure looks like the second ward needs a councilman who can think for himself.
