YOUNGSTOWN - Emmanuel Dawson said he had other things on his mind New Year's morning in 2011 when a Campbell man was killed by a man who is married to a family member.
Testifying this morning in the murder trial of 22-year-old Daro Correa before Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge John Durkin, Dawson, a co-defendant who was on parole at the time, testified that in the minutes after 30-year-old Randy Capelli of Campbell was killed, he was worried about other things when he was asked what he was wearing that morning or what the conditions were like.
"All I'm thinking about is 60 months in Michigan," Dawson said. "I wasn't thinking about no weather or what I was wearing."
Capelli was found shot to death on Shady Run Road on the South Side about 4 a.m. Jan. 1, 2011. Police say he was killed during a robbery.
Dawson has also been charged but a trial date has not been set for him. He testified today in jail coveralls before the jury which was selected Tuesday to hear the case.
