George E. Soffos 1953-2013

HOLIDAY, Fla. - George E. Soffos, 59, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.

George was born Nov. 6, 1953, in Warren, the son of Constantino and Stella Pappas Soffos.

He attended Warren City Schools and went on to become a world renowned, legendary bouzouki player. He played in Greek nightclubs in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, New York and countless other cities, both in the U.S. and abroad, and most recently Florida, where he earned the prestigious 2011 Florida Folk Heritage Award from the secretary of state for his cultural work in Tarpon Springs.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Eleni, Anastasia and Cassandra, all of Florida; a sister, Mary (John) Hilas of Howland; and two brothers, Zane (Cathy) Soffos of Warren and James (Kae) Soffos of Pinellas Park, Fla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael P. Soffos.

Services and burial have taken place in Florida.

Local arrangements are by the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road N.E., Warren, OH 44483.
