Canfield sits in sixth place at Dies tournament

AKRON -- Canfield is in sixth place with 59.5 points at the Bill Dies Memorial wrestling tournament at Firestone High School.

The Cardinals have six wrestlers in the quarterfinals of the 40-team tournament, which is widely regarded as one of the tougher events in the state. Kyle West advanced at 106 pounds along with Stephen Daprile (120), John Poullas (170), Stan Socha (182), Jacob Esarco (220) and Curtis Burns (285).

Brookfield's David Jamieson is in the quarterfinals at 220 pounds. Joey Baitt of Jefferson made it at 126 pounds, and did Ricker Maple also advanced at 138 for the Falcons, who are in 14th place with 41 points.

Brecksville is in first place with 96 points. Brunswick is second with 71, and Norton is third at 64. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m. today.
