Police confiscate drugs during South Side raid
YOUNGSTOWN - Officers found 29 bags of crack cocaine during a raid about 5:05 p.m. Thursday at 373 W. Earle Ave. home on the South Side, police said.
Daryl Hall, 26, of that address, was arrested on the charges of possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to the Mahoning County Jail.
Also inside the home, officers found a large rock of crack cocaine, three digital scales, more than $300 in cash, a .38-caliber revolver loaded with four rounds and four bags of marijuana, police reports state.
The raid was carried out by the department's vice squad, who were serving a search warrant at the home.
Bond was set at $10,000 at his arraignment in Municipal Court, and he must be on house arrest if he posts bond. He has a preliminary hearing Monday.
Library board organizes for year
WARREN - The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Board of Trustees recently reorganized for 2013 and elected James McFarland to serve as president. Lynn Miller will serve as vice president and Michael McGee as secretary.
Other board members include James Duff, Donald Emerson Jr., Lillie Johnson and Franklin Manios.
Four library board members are appointed by the county commissioners and three by the judges of the Common Pleas Court. All appointees serve unpaid, seven-year terms.
Board meetings will be held at 4:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the main library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren.
Court date set in school threat case
WARREN - A student accused of threatening a Champion High School student will be back in court Feb. 14.
Leland Fritz, 19, of South Leavitt Road, was arraigned in Warren Municipal Court Thursday on a charge of inducing panic and was released on his own recognizance.
Fritz is accused of threatening a student at Champion on the Internet. Police were notified Tuesday, and Fritz was arrested. Police were at the school Wednesday to make sure there was no trouble.
Youngstown men charged in smuggling
CONNEAUT - Three Youngstown men will be in court Tuesday on claims they tried to sneak contraband into a prison.
Jawann M. Evans, 35, Brandon R. Miller, 28, and Anthony J. West, 28, all of Youngstown, and Cregg Vaughn, 39, of Ashtabula, were arrested Monday at the Lake Erie Correctional Institution.
A man was spotted about 6:30 p.m. getting out of a car near the prison and running into the woods with a bag, police said. Two hours later, a man with snow and dirt on his clothes forced a pair of handcuffs onto the hands of an officer who tried to handcuff him.
The man, identified as West, had been stopped because he was seen walking near the prison, reports state. He tried to run but was caught a short distance away with the other three men, police said.
All four will have hearings in Conneaut Municipal Court.
West is charged with assault of a police officer, obstructing justice, obstructing official business and resisting arrest, according to WYTV 33 News. Evans, Miller and Vaughn were charged with obstructing official business.
