Mary L. McCurdy Costar, 1930-2013

HERMITAGE, Pa. - Mary Louise McCurdy Costar, 82, of Romar Drive, passed away at 6:03 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Avalon Springs Nursing Center, Coolspring Township, of natural causes.

Mary Louise was born March 22, 1930, in Sharon, Pa., the daughter of Ralph and Anna Dettman McCurdy.

She was a 1948 graduate of Sharon High School, and later in life found great joy in attending classes at Penn State Shenango with her children.

She retired in 2007 from International Technical Polymer Systems, Niles, where she worked as a secretary and office manager for 19 years.

She and her husband owned and operated Costar Marine in Clark, Pa., for 20 years. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by the Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Sharon, Pa., for 10 years.

She was a member of the Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage, Pa., and enjoyed reading and researching the genealogy of her family.

Her husband, Alexander T. Costar, whom she married Feb. 11, 1950, passed away Sept. 2, 1981.

She is survived by a daughter, Valerie A. Hendrickson of Hermitage, Pa.; two sons, Alexander J. Costar of Hermitage, Pa., and Christopher C. (Sandra) Costar of Columbus; and a grandson, Shawn Hendrickson.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Royale Hendrickson, and a sister, Norma Jean Chomor.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon, Pa. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor of the Church of Notre Dame, officiating.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hermitage, Pa.
