Boys basketball

JEFFERSON 55, LAKEVIEW 46: CORTLAND - Brett Powers had seven of his eight points in the third quarter as the Falcons rolled out to an 18-8 first-quarter lead and never trailed this All-American Conference, National Division contest.

This was a make-up contest from Dec. 21.

Jacob Hamilton led the balanced scoring attack for Jefferson (4-6, 2-3) with 10 points.

Jake Pishotti, who had 12 of his 16 game-high points in the second half, paced Lakeview (1-9, 0-4). The Bulldogs play Friday at Girard.

Girls basketball

LORAIN 40, WARREN G. HARDING 28: LORAIN - Destiny Wilson had 14 points, while Angelique Flores added 12 as Lorain beat Warren G. Harding in Lake Erie League action.

Moesha Parks led Harding with eight points.

SOUTHEAST 72, ROOTSTOWN 49: PALMYRA- Southeast jumped on to a 24-11 first-quarter lead and was able to beat Rootstown.

Southeast was led by Brittany Butcher who scored 32 points for the Pirates. Butcher had the hot hand from beyond the arc, nailing eight 3-pointers. Brandi Barkurst scored 14 points for Rootstown in the loss.

WINDHAM 55, GARFIELD 23: GARRETTSVILLE - Windham picked up a win with strong performances from Jessica Isler and Dari Heller.

Isler scored 20 points, had eight steals and dished out six assists for Windham (8-5, 6-2 Portage Trail Conference County Division). Heller scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Bombers.

Garfield(4-7, 2-4 PTC County) was led by Madisson Geddes with 10 points.

Hockey

Canfield High School 5, Garfield Heights 3: BOARDMAN - On senior night, senior captain Pat Bassett scored twice off feeds from junior captain, Nick Crescimanno and the Cards fended off the fiesty Garfield Heights Bulldogs in a 5-3 victory in Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League action.

Crescimanno added two goals and PJ Denney chipped in with one for Canfield. Seniors Jared Daugherty and Josh Tancer made strong defensive plays to help hold Garfield Heights team to just 15 shots.

Tim Fernstrom had two assists, while Danny Drotleff, JP Clendenin, Bassett, and Britanny Bettille had one helper each. Megan Cole picked up the victory in net.

The Cards (2-13) take on Nordonia Sunday night at Gilmour Academy.

Swimming

HUBBARD: Hubbard's Joe Spurio placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.87) and Julia Castner was first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.96) as the Eagles lost to Canfield Tuesday.
