Model train flea market comes to McMenamy's

The Youngstown Model Railroad Association presents a Toy Train and Model Railroad Flea Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at McMenamy's Banquet Hall, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles.

The event will feature 185 dealer tables with merchandise and equipment for all model railroad scales and interests. Also on display will be an operating three-rail O-gauge layout courtesy of the Western Reserve Modular Railroad Club.

Admission is $5 for adults with children ages 11 and younger admitted free.

MetroMutts get fit with Doga

January's MetroMutts event at Mill Creek MetroParks is ''Doga,'' a yoga class for dogs and their human companions.

Maureen Lauer-Gatta, owner of the Yoga Room in Warren, will lead the class at 11 a.m. Sunday at Pioneer Pavilion. Participants are asked to bring a yoga mat and water for themselves and treats for their dogs.

The cost is $5 for MetroMutts members and $10 for nonmembers. Call 330-702-3000 to register.

Ashtabula gets 'All Shook Up'

G.B. Community Theatre stages the musical ''All Shook Up'' for a three-weekend run at the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St., Ashtabula.

The musical borrows from William Shakeseare's ''Twelfth Night'' and is built around such popular Elvis Presley hits as ''Heartbreak Hotel,'' ''Jailhouse Rock,'' ''Love Me Tender'' and ''Don't Be Cruel.''

Show times are 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Jan. 18-19 and 25-26 and 2 p.m. Sunday and Jan. 20. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens with a $2 discount by purchasing tickets in advance at 440-964-3396.

Comics legend makes ToonSeum appearance

Comic book artist, editor and publisher Jim Shooter will be featured at a special event Jan. 19 at the ToonSeum, 945 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh.

Shooter began writing for "Superboy," "The Legion of Super-Heroes," "Superman" and other DC Comics at age 13 in 1965. In 1976 he became editor of Marvel's color comics and later founded founded Valiant, Defiant and Broadway Comics. He currently is the editor in chief of Illustrated Media, a custom comics company.

''An Evening with Jim Shooter'' runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 19 and includes a VIP reception at 6 p.m., an on-stage interview at 7:30 p.m. and a Q&A session. VIP tickets are $40 for ToonSeum members and $50 for non-members. Interview/Q&A tickets are $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. For more information, call 412-232-0199.
