The new year is starting slow for Blu-ray or DVD releases:

"Looper" - In this futuristic thriller, time travel exists, but it's used by organized crime to eliminate its enemies by sending them back in time for assassination. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays one of those assassins, who flinches when he's supposed to "close the loop" by killing his future self (played by Bruce Willis) and creates a new set of problems.

Director Rian Johnson is joined by Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt for a commentary track. All versions also include five deleted scenes with commentary, the featurettes "Looper: From the Beginning" and "Scoring Looper" and an animated trailer. The Blu-ray version adds 17 additional deleted scenes with commentary and "The Science of Time Travel" featurette. (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, $30.99 DVD, $35.99 Blu-ray)

"Cosmopolis" - The latest film from David Cronenberg stars Robert Pattinson as a billionaire asset manager making a big financial gamble. As he travels the city in a stretch limo, he encounters riots and other hallucinatory events. Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, Jay Baruchel, K'Naan and Mathieu Amalric co-star.

Cronenberg contributes a commentary track. (Entertainment One, $24.98 DVD, $29.98 Blu-ray)

"Little Birds" - Two teenagers (Juno Temple and Kay Panabaker) make a dangerous decision to flee their decaying hometown and follow some boys they meet to Los Angeles in this drama co-starring Leslie Mann and Kate Bosworth.

Writer-director Elgin James does a commentary track, and the disc includes deleted scenes and a making-of featurette. (Millennium, $29.99 DVD)

"Putin's Kiss" - This documentary looks at life in contemporary Russia through the eyes of Masha, who becomes a spokesperson for the pro-Vladimir Putin group Nashi when she still is a teenager but starts to question her loyalities after her encounters with those critical of his government. (Kino Lorber, $29.95 DVD)

"The Trouble With Bliss" - Michael C. Hall a man in his mid-30s who ends up in a relationship with the teenaged daughter of a former classmate. Brie Larson, Lucy Liu, Chris Messina, Peter Fonda and Rhea Perlman co-star. (Anchor Bay, $14.98 DVD)
