WARREN - A Lexington Avenue N.W. man was arrested late Sunday evening on claims that he set fire to the back porch of his home during an argument with his mother.

Bruce B. VonBergen, 31, was arraigned Monday in Municipal Court on charges of domestic violence and aggravated arson after he was arrested outside his home about 10:30 p.m.

Police were called to the home by VonBergen's mother, Cheryl Stark, who had called earlier in the evening about him. VonBergen had left before officers got there the first time.

As police were on their way the second time, they were told the fire department was also on the way because a large amount of smoke was coming from the back of the home.

Stark was outside and told officers her son was in the driveway, dressed in just pants and a shirt. He was handcuffed and placed in a cruiser.

Reports state Stark told police her daughter and another man were helping her clean her home when VonBergen began knocking on the back door and demanding to be let in.

When Stark said she refused to let him inside, he told her that her enclosed back porch was on fire.

Firefighters doused the fire quickly, reports state. A damage estimate was not available and no one was injured.
