NILES - Irma Wicks, 88, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
She was born Irma Eileen Weir March 24, 1924, in Sherman Township (Huron County), Mich., the daughter of Anabelle Reid Weir and Arthur Thomas Weir.
Irma graduated from Harbor Beach High School, Michigan, in 1941 and from Bay City Business College with a secretarial degree. She worked full-time as a secretary at Ferris State University, Western Auto and ACE Lumberjack stores. She retired in 1986 and traveled to various destinations, including her lifelong dream trip to Hawaii.

Irma was an avid Detroit Lions, Tigers and Pistons fan and loved watching basketball games. She was an avid gardener and belonged to bowling and card leagues. She loved dogs, especially boxers, and was very creative in crafts. She lived in Algonac, Mich., until 2011, and spent the past year in assisted living at The Manor at Autumn Hills in Niles.
She is survived by her children, Linda Proctor (Bill) of Hillsdale, Mich., and John Wicks (Diane) of Cortland; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Caitlin.
Irma was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband of 48 years, Stanley, whom she married in March 1946. Also preceding her were her three brothers, William, Charles and James.
Family and friends will be notified of a celebration of life memorial to be held in Harbor Beach, Mich., at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland.
