DRESS FOR SUCCESS HOLDS CAMPAIGN: Dress for Success Warren-Youngstown is a community-based organization that is run predominantly by volunteers. The organization operates through fundraising events, grants and donations from supporters. Costs include rental for the boutique, utilities and salaries for part-time staff. The first annual Christmas appeal is under way through Jan. 12 with people being asked to donate $12 by Jan. 12 and on going for the next 12 months. The goal is to raise $15,000 to support, style and develop the first 100 women through the doors in 2013. POLICE HELP SHELTER: The Cortland Police Department collected donations to help the women and children who are currently in the Someplace Safe shelter for the holidays. Local citizen Tammy Cornell had the idea to collect needed goods and gifts but needed a drop-off point to store the items. Police arranged for the transportation of the goods to the shelter before the holidays. There is a need for personal items and toiletries for the women and gifts for the children at the shelter.
ORGANIZATION RECEIVES GRANT: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley / Western Pennsylvania helped local children through a $2,000 grant to the Warren Family Mission to be used to purchase toys for the organization's annual toy giveaway program. The organization also provides free after-school programs and drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
SUPPORT GROUP TO MEET: Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests will host confidential group support meetings beginning Jan. 5. Victims of sex abuse and their family members are welcome to attend these meetings. The group is a safe environment for victims of childhood sex abuse to meet in a supportive, accepting atmosphere.
