NILES - Elizabeth "Betty" Harris, 86, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at her residence.
Betty was born June 18, 1926, in Blackpool, England, the daughter of James and Gertrude Hornby Johnson.
An active member of the Anglican Church, she was an award winner in gymnastics, singing and penmanship while in England. Following school, she had been employed by Grinwald's Bakery, below the famous Blackpool Tower on the Irish Sea.

Harris
An avid bowler, she participated in the former Niles Women's Church Bowling Leagues. She enjoyed the old black and white movies, crossword puzzles and shopping.
Her husband, Richard C. Harris, whom she married May 22, 1946, in Blackpool, preceded her in death Feb. 12, 1997. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Jane "Jennie," Mary and Margaret; and two brothers, Vincent and Jack.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Mary R. (Charles) Laska of Niles; her son, Richard C. (Suzan) Harris Jr. of Mooresville, N.C.; a sister, Dorothy Smith of Northwich, England; four grandchildren, William (Tracy) Harris, Karen (Alan) Orlaski, Jennifer (Ben) Huffman and Caroline Laska; and five great-grandchildren, Hannah Harris, Matthew Harris, Emily Orlaski, Ian Orlaski and Haden Huffman.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Donald Hall officiating in St. Luke Church, where friends may also call one half hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
