HOWLAND - Gregory J. "Greg" Alex, 67, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 21, 1945, in Warren, the son of Michael I. and Olive M. Alex.
Gregory graduated from Warren City Schools and was the owner and operator of Mahoning Lighting & Maintenance Co., started by his father in 1955, until today.

He was one of the earliest buyers of urban renewal land in the City of Warren. In 1988, he was an inductee of the Warren City Schools Vocational Hall of Fame.
Gregory was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed classic car shows.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Gnat Alex, whom he married June 10, 1972; three daughters, Amy (Mike) Sindelar of Avon, Holly (Tom) McVicar of Macomb, Mich., and Wendy (Dave) Austin of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Morgan and Olivia McVicar; a brother, Michael J. (Jeanne) Alex of Parker, Colo.; and a sister, Patricia Farah of Huntington Beach, Calif. Gregory is also survived by his mother-in-law, Margaret Gnat of Warren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating.
A private entombment will take place in Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.
