Joseph J. Kohut 1914-2012

NEWTON FALLS - Joseph John Kohut, 98 , entered into eternal rest Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.

Joseph was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Beaverdale, Pa., the son of John and Anna Elko Kohut. He has lived in Newton Falls since 1941, formerly of Ramey, Pa.

He married the former Helen B. Pollick Feb. 24, 1937. Joseph and Helen were married for 63 years before her passing Nov. 3, 2000.

Joseph was a purchasing foreman for 30 years for North American Rockwell, retiring in 1974.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Loving memories of Joseph will be carried on by his daughter, Barbara (Roger) Carrier of Howland; sons, Burton (Dorothy) Kohut of Garrettsville, Fred (Loretta) Kohut of Libertyville, Ill., and Jim (Rae) Kohut of Cortland; sisters, Margaret Bednarcik of Newton Falls and Helen (John) Surick of Newton Falls; brothers, Walter Kohut of Newton Falls and Robert (Stefne) Kohut of Newton Falls; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Joseph was preceded in death by two daughters, Frances Burick and Nancy Kohut; a sister, Ann Hansel; and five brothers, John, George, Edward, Paul and Michael Kohut.

Calling hours will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at James Funeral Home, with a family prayer at 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary & Joseph Church. Joseph will be laid to rest next to his wife in St. Joseph Cemetery.
