Donald E. Melvin 1953-2012

HUBBARD - Donald E. Melvin, 59, found peace at 6:27 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.

Don was born June 27, 1953, in Greenville, Pa., the son of Lawrence L. and Betty Mathews Melvin.

A 1971 graduate of Joseph Badger High School, he worked as a steel worker for Republic Steel, LTV and Arcelor-Mittal Steel in Warren for more than 38 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Brookfield United Methodist Church, USW Local 1375 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Girard.

In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping and hunting. He worked almost every spaghetti dinner at the church, where he was dubbed the "official noodle taster."

Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Kay Shaner, whom he married Oct. 10, 1981; his sons, Patrick A. Foster of Colorado Springs, Colo., Joshua S. (fiancee Kristin) Foster of Hubbard and Matthew E. (fiancee Kim) Melvin of Boardman; his granddaughter, Isabella Renae Melvin; his father of Kinsman; his brothers, Robert L. (Cheryl) Melvin of Kinsman and Jack (Janine) Melvin of Orwell; his sisters, Bonnie (Robert) McDowall of Farmdale and Cindy (Bruce) Ault of Williamsfield; plus his extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

A time of gathering to honor Don's life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Briceland Funeral Service, LLC., 379 state Route 7 S.E., Brookfield. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., his celebration continues with a service at Brookfield United Methodist Church, 6951 Grove St.

He will be laid to rest at West Mecca Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the American Diabetes Association.
