Gerald D. Moyer, 1929-2012

HOUSTON - Gerald D. Moyer, 83, formerly of Champion, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Kindred Hospital Clear Lake in Webster, Texas, after a long illness.

He was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Warren, the son of the late Gerald and Marie Post Moyer.

Gerald was a graduate of Newton Falls and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a self-employed carpenter for 45 years. Gerald was a member of Carpenters Local 171 and the OD SRCA Tamburitzans for 25 years before moving to Texas in 2005.

Gerald married the former Dorothy Pruss on June 4, 1960, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage. They had traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Hawaii, parts of Canada, eight European countries, Aruba, Jamaica, the Bahamas and took two cruises.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dorothy of Houston; a son, Glenn (Debbie) Moyer of Niles; a daughter, Bernadette (Jerry) Hajek Jr. of Houston; a brother, William Moyer of Champion; and brothers-in-law Donald James of Newton Falls and Francis Arnold of Cortland.

He was unexpectedly preceded in death by his only grandson, Jerry Hajek III, by 17 hours. Also preceding him were sisters LaVelma James, Miriam Arnold and Helen Beatty.

Family and friends may gather from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish in Vienna.

Funeral Mass for Gerald will begin at 1 p.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish, with the Rev. Denis Bouchard officiating.

Burial will follow with full military honors at All Souls Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests material contributions in Gerald's name are made to the Queen of Angels Catholic Church Building Fund, 4100 Texas #3, Dickinson, TX 77539.
