CHAMPION - Edith F. "Dita" Toda Masarick, 82, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, from complications due to pneumonia.
She was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Sharon, Pa., the youngest daughter of George and Florica Crishon Boila. She grew up in Sharon, Pa., and graduated from Sharon High in 1949. She then lived the rest of her life in Champion and Warren. The last three-and-a-half years she resided at Clearview Lantern Suites Assisted Living in Champion. Edith was very happy and content there and participated in all activities.
In 1991, after 32 years, Edith retired from Packard Electric, working mostly as a braider on Dana Street. She had impeccable work ethic and dedication to her job.

She cross stitched a selection of Hummel pictures that were proudly displayed on her living room wall. Edith was an avid knitter; she made slippers and hats for many. While she was at Clearview she started knitting dishcloths. They were sold there to help the cause for Alzheimer's disease. That tradition will continue, as there are still many to sell. If you were lucky enough to get one of her nut rolls at Christmas time you were in for a wonderful treat. That was the recipe of her precious Nasa, Patsy Cabuz.
Edith was fun, funny, high spirited and sometimes very stubborn. Through her fun times she shared her life with niece, Patti (Fred) DiGiacobbe of Warren, Ronnie and Toni Beal of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Paula Soldani, who is deceased. Many trips to Las Vegas were taken, and she spent much fun in the sun.
Every Sunday you could find Edith at St John's Orthodox Church. She was a faithful member. She was also very devoted to her children; she called them "Sis" and "Eugene." She always made them feel safe and protected. The same devotion was given to her father, especially in his elder years when George lived with her family until his death. But there was no devotion greater than that given to her only granddaughter, Emily Anne Kapp. Emily called her Buni. They had a fun and joyous relationship. Edith was fond of her son-in-law, David, who helped her with any need. She thought of him as one of her own.
Edith is survived by her two children, Paul Eugene Toda Jr. of Indianapolis and Paula (David) Kapp of Warren; her granddaughter, Emily; and her brother, Romie Boila of Tulsa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Jennie Boila, Anna Platteborze, and recently, Olympia Wieland.
Calling hours for Edith will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Peter Rossi Funeral Home on North Road in Warren. A Parastas Memorial Vigil will take place at 4 p.m. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, with visitation one half-hour before at St. John's Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Champion Township Cemetery.
