LAKE VISTA HOSTS HOLIDAY EVENT: Lake Vista of Cortland will hold its fourth annual tree-lighting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Park Place Apartments, 303 N. Mecca St., Cortland. The event includes horse-drawn carriage rides, the Lakeview High School choir, Santa and Mrs. Claus, and refreshments.
HOLIDAY CONCERT HELPS FOOD BANK: The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band and Stambaugh Chorus will host the second annual Holiday Concert of Giving at 4 p.m. today at Stambaugh Auditorium to raise money to feed hungry families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Admission is a cash donation to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.
The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will perform holiday favorites, and there will be a special appearance from Santa Claus. For every $1 given at the concert, the food bank can distribute $15 worth of food to families that need it most this holiday season.
STATE PATROL HOLDS TOY DRIVE: The Pennsylvania State Police Mercer Barracks is holding its annual holiday toy drive through Friday. The effort gets toys for children handled through the Mercer County Children's Aid Society who otherwise would not receive gifts. New, unwrapped toys may be donated at the Mercer barracks, U.S. Route 62, Jackson Center, and allow parents to pick the toys for their children.
ORGANIZATIONS TEAM UP: The Salvation Army Mahoning County Area Services in partnership with several civic organizations and businesses is gearing up to give the "Gift of Warmth" to needy children in the area. More than 1,000 new winter coats will be distributed to pre-registered children in great need. The distribution is to be held Salvation Army.

GROUP HOLDS FUNDRAISER: Project Be Somebody is holding its annual Christmas toy drive. A Chinese auction and 50/50 are planned. Donations can be dropped off at ACE Hardware store in Leavittsburg, Lake Vista of Cortland, Wagon Wheel in Leavittsburg , and The Lucky Inn in Leavittsburg.
Monetary donations can be sent to Project Be Somebody, with "Toy Drive funds" written in the memo, and sent to 6403 Kale Adam Road, Leavittsburg 44430.
AWARDS BANQUET HELD: The Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District hosted its 62nd annual awards meeting honoring individuals and businesses for their contributions to agriculture. Ron Novak of Hartford was named the district's Conservationist of the Year, Dave Wynkoop as Volunteer of the Year, Denmandale Farms of Johnston was named Farm Family of the Year, Pat Higgins of Newton Township received the Bill Penn Memorial Conservation Award, Dave Nelson of Warren's McGuffey School received the Conservation Educator of the Year award, and Scott Hill, eastern district director of the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, received the Cooperator of the Year Award.
TOYS FOR TOTS EFFORT BEING HELD: Kennsington Golf Club, 4171 Westford Place, Canfield, is collecting donations of toys for Marine Corps Toys for Tots through Dec. 21. For each unwrapped toys dropped off Kennsington Golf Club is offering gift certificate for nine holes of free golf.
