Schultz, 82, of Warren, was active with Beth Israel Temple in Warren and Temple El Emeth in Liberty.

County approves help for drug task force

Ashtabula County commissioners approved funding a full-time deputy to work with the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force. Trumbull County provides three to four officers to the drug enforcement effort.

TAG ran short earlier this year and requested funding from the Ashtabula board to help pay for seven to eight months of that county's deputy's salary, officials said. TAG ideally wants at least two deputies from the county to work with TAG.

Correspondence from TAG to the board indicates that it is requesting in its grant application the funding for a full-time officer from Ashtabula County. TAG asked commissioners to fully fund the second position, about $70,000 annually. The board also will need to provide a vehicle, liability insurance and fuel for the officer.

Commissioners agreed to pick up the entire cost of one officer as an appropriation from the sheriff's budget, according to reports.

'Pause' gives Airlift Wing a year without cutbacks

VIENNA - The 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station received a "strategic pause" in the Senate Appropriation Committee 2013 Defense Appropriation bill.

The Air Force had proposed a shift in aircraft that would have resulted in a loss of two C-130 aircraft at the station in Vienna. The measure will preserve the current 12 C-130 planes and personnel at the air station for at least an additional year.

"By operating fixed-wing sprayers, the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station has a one-of-a-kind mission, often helping to assist in domestic disaster relief," Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said. "As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I was proud to vote to secure the strategic pause for the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.''

Ex-coach indicted over locker room videos

CANTON - A former high school basketball coach accused of videotaping student-athletes in the locker room has been indicted in northeast Ohio.

A Stark County grand jury on Wednesday indicted 46-year-old Scott Studer on eight counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.

The former Jackson High School coach was arrested in November after investigators searched his home and found nude images on a DVD, a laptop computer and a flash drive.

The assistant chief of the Stark County prosecutor's criminal division says Studer could be sentenced to up to 64 years in prison if he's convicted of all charges.

Achievers' Association seeks Hall nominees
