YOUNGSTOWN - City Council on Wednesday will be voting on the first reading of an ordinance that would ban any new injection wells in the city.
The sponsor of the ordinance, Councilwoman Janet Tarpley, D-6th Ward, said she is not opposed to other types of drilling in the city, but is concerned about injection wells because they were linked to a dozen earthquakes in the city between March and December 2011.
Tarpley also said that with the city agreeing to sell land they own to be used for drilling, now was a good time to introduce the legislation.
