Howland settles in ambulance accident
HOWLAND - Trustees have agreed to a roughly $3,100 settlement to pay for damages in an accident involving a township ambulance.
The ambulance backed into Amanda Fabijance's 2008 Pontiac Torrent on Oct. 11 at 9500 Howland Springs Road S.E. Both parties sought to settle all claims that exist or could exist, according to a resolution set by the trustees with the help of the township's law director.
Trustee Jim Saker said the accident was described to him as a "fender-bender."
"We wanted to make sure we made good for the damage," Saker said.
The settlement also covered the cost of a rental car and was paid directly to the repair service, according to Saker.
Howland plans to improve entry points
HOWLAND - Howland engineers will work with the Trumbull County Engineer's Office to create more welcoming entry points to the township through a grant to develop a corridor plan.
Trustee Jim Saker said the improvements are aimed at people entering the township,"So when they come into Howland they feel a sense that they enter the community."
According to a resolution approved by the trustees at their regular Wednesday meeting, URS Corp. engineers will be paid $4,000 to help the township and the county's engineers develop the corridor plan and a grant application to improve the infrastructure in the "Golden Triangle" area of the township.
The "Golden Triangle" is in the northwest corner of the township where Delphi Packard Electric is located.
The county will reimburse the township half the cost of development.
