WARREN - Police found a loaded .22-caliber handgun inside a car that had been driven through a backyard Wednesday evening.
The four men inside the car ran in different directions when it stopped about 6:20 p.m. in the backyard of 2264 Northwest Blvd. N.W. All eluded officers who searched for them.
A Lovers Lane man called police and said as he pulled into his drive, he saw a vehicle parked there, and the vehicle left as he pulled in.
The man followed the vehicle and called police before he was able to track it to a 2249 Stephens Ave. N.W. driveway.
Police found the car but no one was inside, and no one answered a knock at the door, reports stated. Officers then checked the home on Lovers Lane and found no signs of a burglary, then went back to Stephens Avenue N.W. and found the car being backed out of the driveway.
Police stopped the car and had the driver turn it off, and other officers arrived. One of the three passengers was moving around in the back seat and was ordered to stop, reports said.
As more police came to the area, the driver suddenly put the car in gear and drove through the backyard and through several back yards before it stopped at 2264 Northwest Blvd. N.W.
That's when the four men inside the car ran away in different directions, and police were unable to find them, reports state.
On the driver's seat police found the gun, and also found two police scanners and several pairs of rubber gloves.
Police also found Warren Municipal Court records for two people. The car was towed.
