WARREN - Police found a loaded .22-caliber handgun and scanners inside a car that they had stopped but instead drove through a back yard about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers had found the car, which a resident had said may have been involved in an attempted burglary on Lovers Lane, at 2249 Stephens Ave. N.W. as it tried to back out of a driveway.
As police were questioning the driver in the driveway, he put the car in drive and drove through the backyard and stopped in a backyard at 2264 Northwest Blvd. N.W. The driver and three passengers ran away in different directions.
Inside the car police found the gun, along with two scanners and several pairs of rubber gloves.
