GIRLS BASKETBALL

CRESTWOOD 52, GARFIELD 47: MANTUA - Garfield outscored Crestwood 21-14 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough for the G-Men.

Jackie Tabor led Garfield (0-2) with a game-high 16 points. Melody Bright scored 11 and Alicia Witte had a near double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Holly Hoffman and Allison Vannoy each had 13 points to lead Crestwood (1-1). Allyson Groves put in 10.

HOCKEY

BOARDMAN - Pat Bassett scored the game-winning goal off an assist by Nick Crescimanno as Canfield defeated Nordonia 3-2 in the opening game of the season in the GCHSHL Blue Central East at the Ice Zone on Wednesday night.

Bassett's goal beat Nordonia (0-1, 0-4) goalie Justin Post with 5:17 left in the game, giving the Cardinals (1-0, 1-4) the victory.

Crescimanno and PJ Denney added goals for Canfield, with assists coming from Danny Drotleff and Pete Crescimanno.

Canfield out shot Nordonia 24-12.

Megan Cole stopped 10 shots in goal for the win. Canfield takes on Twinsburg Sunday at Garfield Heights in its next game.
