WARREN - A man with a gunshot wound to the face attempted to drive himself to the hospital Wednesday evening before being stopped and taken there by ambulance.
The gunshot victim was rushed by ambulance from the intersection of Niles Road and South St. S.E. in Warren around 8:30 p.m, after being shot minutes earlier at the intersection of Draper and Benton streets S.E.
The victim said he had being shot during an attempted carjacking of his pickup truck, police said.

At the scene, police Lt. Martin Gargas said officers did not have information on what happened because the victim was at Trumbull Memorial Hospital "fighting for life."
The investigation is continuing. Police did not say if there were suspects or what evidence was collected.
Regina Staggers, who lives near the Benton Street intersection, said she heard four gunshots while watching television upstairs in her home. She rushed to the first floor to look out the window and said she saw a man on the ground wailing. She saw him falling backward trying to get into the vehicle.
After telling her three daughters to go upstairs, she said she saw the man driving slowly away.
The victim drove about two miles in a red pickup truck until police and an ambulance stopped him at the intersection of Youngstown Road and Niles Road and took him the rest of the way.
A hospital spokeswoman said late Wednesday that she did not have information on the man.
