Wilda Lorraine Simms 1925-2012

YOUNGSTOWN - Wilda Loraine Simms, 87, formerly of McDonald, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Omni Manor Health Care.

She was born May 12, 1925, in New Cumberland, W.Va., the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Slentz Heffner.

She spent her childhood in Port Homer and her adulthood in East Liverpool before relocating to McDonald in November 2007.

She graduated from Toronto High School in 1943 and had been employed with the William Erlanger Co., Pioneer Pottery and later the East Liverpool school system, retiring in 1986.

On March 7, 1947, Wilda was united in marriage with Harold N. Simms, sharing 52 years together until his passing Dec. 31, 1999.

She enjoyed cooking, reading and travel.

Wilda is survived by two daughters, Patricia M. (Ralph) Nicastro of McDonald and Susan (Scott) Dubberly of Boynton Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, John (Amy) Cunningham and Steve (Linda) Cunningham, both of McDonald, Christopher Dubberly of Washington, D.C., and Katherine Dubberly of Boynton Beach; four great-grandchildren, Lauren and Nathan Cunningham, both of McDonald, Brandon Wiebert of McDonald and Dewie (Tabitha) Cunningham of Lake Milton; and sisters-in-law, Neva Heffner of Wellsville and Mary Simms Bochla of Dover, Del.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles "Red" Heffner.

Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where the family will be present. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Carla Davies of Woodland Park United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Woodland Park United Methodist Church, 601 Ohio Ave., McDonald, OH 44437.
