Gerald Donald Wilson 1934-2012

NEWTON FALLS - Gerald Donald Wilson, 78, passed into eternal life Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at St. Joseph Health Center with his family by his side.

He was born April 19, 1934, in Frenchtown Township, Mich., the son of Scott Riley and Clara Louise Ellerman.

Gerald met his wife, Margarete Gsur, in Langenzersdorf, Austria, and they later married Nov. 8, 1958. The couple enjoyed 54 years of blessed marriage together.

He was a member of the U.S. Army and Reserves, serving from 1957 to 1960. Gerald was also a member of the German Family Society in Brimfield.

He worked at General Motors in Lordstown as a tool and die maker for 35 years before retiring in 1998. Gerald enjoyed gardening and puttering around the house. His two cats, Sloopy and Mitzi, always had a special place in his heart. But his family was his first love. The most important and best times were the times that were spent together with his immediate and extended family.

Those family members include his wife, Margarete; his daughters and their husbands, Sue (Pat) Layshock, Maria (Alvin) Fish, all of Newton Falls; his son and his wife, John (Jenny) Wilson of Dundee, Mich.; his sister, Bonnie Heinzl; his brothers and wife, Willis Wilson and Scott (Kathy) Wilson Jr., all of Newton Falls; his grandchildren and their spouses, Julie (Chris) Capasso, Jenn Layshock, Michael Layshock, Brian (Nikki) Fish, Katie Pereces, Chris (Clarissa) Pereces, Nicole (Josh) Bahny and Angie Wilson; and he was OPI to his great-grandchildren, Bella Capasso and Ellie Fish.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom Wilson; and a grandson, Andrew Layshock.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow, and Gerald will be laid to rest at Newton Falls Cemetery.
