Gallery shines light on Bright, students

Art Outreach Gallery will showcase the work of Youngstown artist Al Bright along with many of the students he inspired in an exhibition opening Friday at its new location inside Eastwood Mall.

Bright, a professor emeritus at Youngstown State University, has had more than 50 one-man exhibitions, including shows at the Butler Institute of American Art, Stanford University, Kent State University, the Canton Art Institute and the Akron Art Museum.

''A Celebration of Al Bright: Artists' Reunion'' will feature paintings by Bright alongside work by more than 40 of his former students.

Participating artists include: Kathryn Bernard, Wayne Gruver, Denise Bright, Chris Ross, Suzanne Gray, Jay (Otis) Gordon, Jaison Lee, Melissa Allison, Trish Blackman, Amy Krieger, Merle Fischer (Bouffard), Charlene Galose, Sean Butler, Amy Rigby, Allison Keith, Kristina Smith, Arrilous Beechman, Amanda Thompson(Bero), Brennan Calvey, Stacy Torma, Troy Goldberg, Jeremy Lockard, Bobbi Lapushansky, Jean Saadey, Phil Saadey, Karen Fry, Elizabeth Timmerman, Ron Mistovich, Franky Laude, Janet Martsellar, Steve Mountz, Linda Mohn, Susan Jacobs, MariAnn Cann, Susan Holub, Ed Baldaldo, Derrick Dickey, Gary Tameri, Richarda Bisson, Elizabeth Bulkley (Testa), Angela Speece and Christy Lyras.

Many of the pieces of artwork will be for sale with the artists receiving 100% of the sale price.

''A Celebration'' will be on display through Jan. 6 at the Art Outreach Gallery, now located in the concourse between Macy's and Sears at Eastwood Mall, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles.

A reception with Bright and many of the other artists is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 2, and admission is free.

Also on display in the gallery will be the work of middle school and high school students from Niles City Schools.

Gallery hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
