James Dance and Performing Arts Center in Howland was recognized last month for its 50 years in business in Trumbull County.
The center was established in 1962 by Carol James, who has instructed more than 10,000 students ranging in age from 3 to 20. The school offers studies in dance, musical theater, voice and drama.
Students have received more than $900,000 in scholarships from colleges, universities and dance companies. Many of the students are now professionals in the entertainment industry. Linda James joined her mother and is co-owner.
At a recent meeting of the Trumbull County Commissioners, officials presented a proclamation to the studio for its accomplishment.
Students at the center have been featured in New York City Broadway Shows, special guest singer on the Kenny Rogers Christmas Show, Madonna International Tour, Disney World, cruise ships, Miss Ohio, music videos, John Mayer's personal assistant, commercials and radio voiceovers. The professional team was invited to travel as foreign exchange students to Australia, Italy, and Mexico. The team was also featured at the Fiesta Bowl Halftime Show and on the U.S.S. Independence.
