SILVERSNEAKERS LUNCH AND LEARN: Those who are Medicare eligible and are choosing a supplement plan before the end of the 2012 are invited to the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown for a Lunch and Learn about the SilverSneakers program, at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 3. Chris Wetzel, a regional representative from Healthways, will be the guest speaker. He will explain how the SilverSneakers program works and how qualified seniors can receive a SilverSneakers membership.

The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is an innovative health, exercise and wellness program helping older adults live healthy, active lifestyles. This event is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be served.

AARP, AREA AGENCIES OFFER DRIVERS COURSE: The following agencies, along with AARP, will offer Driver Safety sessions. The class is free for veterans and their spouses. For other senior citizens, the fee is $14 or $12 for AARP members. Veterans will need to provide written proof of service when they come for the session.

AARP NEEDS TAX-AIDE VOLUNTEERS: AARP Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation offered in conjunction with the IRS. This program provides free tax preparation and filing for seniors and other taxpayers with low to moderate income who need assistance filing their tax returns.

The program is seeking volunteers to assist in tax preparation for the upcoming tax year. The Trumbull County program takes place at 12 sites throughout the county. No tax experience is needed as training will be provided.

SCOPE CENTER OFFERS ASSISTANCE: Seniors age 65 and older needing assistance with the Ohio Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage program can make an appointment at the Warren SCOPE Center through Dec. 7. Assistance will be available to explain different Medicare insurance choices.

Part D is Medicare's prescription drug coverage benefit that began in Jan 2006.

The program was made possible by a grant provided by the Community Foundation of Western Pennsylvania / Eastern Ohio.

Those needing assistance can contact Debbie Zador, coordinator of prescription assistance for seniors at SCOPE, at 330-399-8846.

SCOPE SCHEDULES EAR CARE SPEAKER: The Warren SCOPE Center, 220 W. Market St., has scheduled a breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 20 about hearing and ear care. Wanda Hughes of the Hearing Aid Center is the featured speaker. Free hearing tests will be conducted after the breakfast.

The breakfast is $2 per person. To make reservations for both the breakfast and free hearing tests, call Yvonne at 330-399-8846.

SOCKS FOR SENIORS: Socks for Seniors is an annual community service project through which new socks are collected and distributed to elderly in local area nursing homes around the holidays. The 2012 Socks for Seniors Campaign runs through Christmas.

Local area coordinators near Warren are needed to help with collecting socks. Sign up at www.socksforseniors.com/register.

BE A SANTA TO A SENIOR: Home Instead Senior Care is teaming up with non-profit agencies and area retailers to sponsor Be a Santa to a Senior - a program that collects, wraps and delivers gifts to lonely and needy seniors in Warren. The program runs through Dec. 10.

There will be a community gift-wrapping party on Dec. 13 and delivery of gifts to area seniors the week of Dec. 17.

Christmas trees, located at Walmart (Elm Road), Curves of Boardman, Curves of Austintown, Walgreens of Austintown, Optiview of Niles and Optiview of Austintown, feature ornaments with the first names of the seniors and their respective gift requests.

Holiday shoppers are asked to pick an ornament, buy items on the list and return them unwrapped to the store, along with the ornament attached. The Home Instead Senior Care office will then enlist the volunteer help of its staff, senior-care business associates, non-profit workers and others to collect, wrap and distribute the gifts.

NUTRITION?SITES?AVAILABLE:?The Trumbull County Nutrition Program for the Elderly is provided by the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and operates nutrition sites at 11 locations throughout Trumbull County. These sites provide a meal and the opportunity for socialization. Donations will be accepted.

Any senior citizen 60 or older and his or her spouse are welcome for lunch at any of the following sites:

JOHNSTON SENIOR CENTER
