YOUNGSTOWN - Allen Louis Wolkoff, 93, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at North Side Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Allen was born Aug. 24, 1919, the son of the late Pauline Katzen and Herman Wolkoff, and lived all his life in Warren before moving to Youngstown in 2009.
He was a 1937 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, where he was an honor student and drum major of the marching band. He served three and a half years in the U.S. Army, 332nd Corps of Engineers and participated in five campaigns during World War II - Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Battle of the Bulge and Ardennes. He was awarded five medals, including the bronze star.

Upon returning home from the war, he went into business with his father and brother, Milton, running Wolkoff's Menswear on Courthouse Square, until his retirement in 1986.
Allen was a lifelong member of Beth Israel Temple Center in Warren, serving two terms as president, many years on the Board of Directors and 30 years as Cemetery Chairman.
He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Sara Harskovitz, whom he married April 2, 1949; a daughter, Elyse (Harry) Silverman of Liberty Township; a son, Howard Wolkoff of Cincinnati; six grandchildren, Phillip (Laura) Silverman, J.J. Silverman and Devra Silverman of Liberty, Michael and Blair Wolkoff of Cincinnati and Melanie (Jeff) Blumental of Royal Oak, Mich.; twin great-granddaughters, Addison and Cameron Silverman of Liberty; his nieces, Lenore Ackerman and Phyllis Perlman; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Milton (Lilyan) Wolkoff and Dr. Jerry (Gail) Wolkoff, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Lou (Minnie) Harskovitz, Bernie (Bess) Chawenson and Al (Pauline) Nelson.
The family would like to thank Michelle Evans and the staff at Levy Gardens Assisted Living in Youngstown and Gary Weiss and the nurses, aides and staff at Heritage Manor in Youngstown for all of their wonderful care over the last three and a half years, and to the staff at Northside Medical Center, 2 N.E., for their wonderful care and compassion during his short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lane Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel. Calling hours will begin a half-hour before the service, and burial will be in Beth Israel Cemetery.
