HUBBARD TOWNSHIP -- Citing excellent work and community savings, township trustees unanimously approved the rehiring of recently retired police Chief Todd D. Coonce.
Coonce's retirement will be effective Nov. 30. He will be rehired Dec. 1.
``The biggest thing is that he's done an outstanding job since he's been chief,'' trustee Joseph Gleydura said during a phone interview Wednesday. ``There was no reason not to rehire him.''
The township stands to save $18,000 annually due to a reduction in salary agreed to by Coonce, according to Gleydora. He will be paid $54,404 in yearly salary and will not be eligible for overtime pay. Coonces previous contract paid $72,722 a year and also included overtime pay and longevity pay. Coonces vacation time was also reduced from six weeks to one week, while hospitalization will remain the same.
``He is essentially starting as a new employee,'' Gleydora noted. ``Since everybody's been totally satisfied, it was an easy decision.''
