Wed 1:42 p.m.: Police get 255 applicants

YOUNGSTOWN - More than 250 people signed up to take the police entry-level civil service exam Saturday.

Final numbers from the Civil Service Commission show that 255 candidates have signed up for the test. The deadline to apply was Friday.

The city pushed for more city residents to sign up, along with more women, veterans and minorities. The commission said 82 minorities signed up for the test, of which 32 of those are women.

An additional 25 women also signed up for the test. Fifty-seven veterans also signed up.
