WARREN - The annual art calendar organized by the Fairhaven Foundation recognized the 13 winners whose pieces were selected to be featured for the upcoming year.

The 2013 Fairhaven calendar includes work done by students at Fairhaven School and adults who attend the Fairhaven Workshop.

The 14th annual show was held recently at DiVieste's Banquet Center and showcased the following winners:

Linda Tiihonen, president of the Fairhaven Foundation, said the event was a way to celebrate the artistic talents of the students with the focus of the show on abilities and creativity. Artists ranged in age from younger than 3 to 80.

The calendar winners were picked from 293 entries by a panel of judges that included Ed Stark, Fairhaven superintendent; Willie Venters, IT director; Pam Simpson, owner of the Simpson Gallery; and Pat Galgozy, director of Trumbull Art Gallery.

"This year in an effort to highlight even more of our talented artists, we're including a staff picks gallery,'' Tiihonen said.

Before the official calendar judging took place, staff at the four locations - Niles Workshop, Champion Workshop, Tomaski Center and Fairhaven School - chose their 10 favorite submitted works.

Five Fairhaven employees donated original pieces of their art to be in the silent auction to raise funds for the Foundation to continue their mission of helping individuals with disabilities.

The foundation was established in 1997 by a bequest from Pauline Anders who wanted to help children and adults with developmental disabilities attending Fairhaven School and Workshop.

The foundation raises funds to provide financial assistance for activities and creative pursuits that could not be afforded without the help such as sign language classes, hearing aids, riding lessons, fees for sports, dental exams and X-rays, food boxes and summer camps.

Calendars are $10 and can be purchased by calling 330-652-9800.
