WARREN - Just outside Warren's First Presbyterian Church Saturday, Clyde Workman paged through a hardback collection of profiles featuring himself and more than 200 other local veterans.
Titled ''Valor and Sacrifice,'' the 424-page book contains interviews the Tribune Chronicle conducted with Trumbull County veterans over nine years.
''I went through hell over there,'' Workman said, checking out the full-color photos that accompany the accounts of serving in the military.
Workman, of Warren, said he intends to pass on the book to family members as a keepsake.
On page 408 starts a story written by reporter Ron Selak Jr. that tells how Workman persevered through ordeals on the battlefields that stretched from Sicily to Germany during World War II.
Still with three pieces of shrapnel in his right leg, Workman tucked the book under his arm as he headed off to watch this year's Trumbull County Veterans Day parade.

''Valor and Sacrifice'' will be on sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Walmart, 2016 Millennium Boulevard, Bazetta, in the front of the store near the cash registers. This will be the last offering at the $34.95 pre-sale rate. Beginning Monday, the limited-edition coffee-table-style book will be available during business hours in the Tribune Chronicle lobby for $39.99.
Before the parade and the special ceremony for vets inside the church, a woman stopped by the Tribune Chronicle offices to get her own copy of the book.
Even though she didn't want her name printed in the newspaper, she pointed out that her father served in World war II and recently died.
''I'm going to that event and I'm going to have any veteran I run into sign my book,'' she said.
Rob Bowker of Warren said a relative saw an advertisement for the book and notified him.
''I'm keeping this for the kids,'' he said, pointing out page 30, where his story appears with accounts of him signing up for the Army in December 2000 before graduating from Niles McKinley High School.
July 26, 2004, Bowker was seriously injured in a suicide car bombing in Iraq.
