CORTLAND - John A. Newbrough Sr., 79, of Cortland, passed away after a long illness Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at his home.
He was born June 17, 1933, in Morgantown, W.Va., the son of the late Lester S. and Mable Clemmer Newbrough.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1953 to 1955. He was a foreman at Packard Electric, retiring in 1981 after working 34 years.

He was a member of Leavittsburg Baptist Church and was a chaplain for VFW Post 2662.
He married his first wife, Martha "June" Diamond Newbrough, in 1953. She passed away in 1996.
John is survived by his wife, Shirley B. (Stolfer) Newbrough, whom he married Aug. 24, 2000; a son, John A. (Chetana) Newbrough Jr. of Cortland; two daughters, Stephanie L. (Tom) Raub of Warren and Avis L. (Kevin) St. Clair of Southington; a stepdaughter, Carol A. (Gregory) Vahaly of Bentleyville, Pa.; two brothers, James Newbrough of Niles and Stephen Newbrough of Cleveland; two sisters, Julie Ann Myers of Cleveland and Mary Jane Henck of North Royalton; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacquline Newbrough, and a brother, Richard Newbrough.
His memory will be remembered and cherished by those he leaves behind.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home in Warren, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Kenneth Kern officiating.
Interment will follow at Champion Cemetery with military honor guard.
