Nick Gustovich 1921-2012

WARREN - Nick Gustovich, 90, of Warren, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Thompson 1, Fayette County, Pa., the son of Mile and Mildred Tatalovich Gustovich, and had lived in Trumbull County since 1953.

A graduate of Redstone Township High School, Mr. Gustovich also studied art and mechanics.

A World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, he was one of the few remaining soldiers of the "Mighty Eighth" stationed at the Great Ashfield in Elmswell, England, as part of the 549th Bomber Squadron, 385th Group. He was responsible for loading bombs, repairing machine guns and dropping food over various European countries.

He worked as a mail handler in both the Youngstown and Warren post offices for more than 35 years.

A founding elder and active member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking, kite-making, music and drawing political caricatures. He and his wife, Anna Jean, would make, paint and decorate whirligigs. His other woodworking projects included an Indian in a canoe, Noah's Ark, a piano player and a lady with a rolling pin. He made a pentagon kite from trash bags.

He was also known for entertaining everyone with his gift of song, and was especially fond of jazz and mariachi music.

Surviving are his daughter, Nianna E. Gustovich of McAllen, Texas; two sisters, Mary Gustovich and Millie Laginya, both of Warren; and a brother, Mike (Betty R.) Gustovich of Howland.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Anna Jean (Messer) Gustovich, whom he married Aug. 31, 1958, and who died March 10, 2005; two sisters, Martha and Nellie Gustovich; and a brother, Alex Gustovich.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Roberts-Clark Chapel, Lane Family Funeral Homes in Warren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 3101 Deforest Road S.E., Warren, OH 44484, with the Rev. Douglas Brown officiating.

Entombment along with full military honors will follow at Pineview Memorial Park.

Memorial gifts may be made to the donor's favorite charity in memory of Nick Gustovich.
