Benefit for cancer victim’s children

PROJECT BE SOMEBODY HOSTING BENEFIT: Project Be Somebody is hosting a Chinese auction, spaghetti dinner and bake sale, along with the raffle of more than 100 items, from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at LaBrae High School to raise money for the family of Erika Daubenspeck Bates, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in November 2011.

After several rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant that appeared successful, her cancer cells returned. Bates, 39, lost her battle in October. She was a mother to two young children.

Presale tickets can be purchased from Project Be Somebody at 330-898-6681. Donations can be mailed to Project Be Somebody, 6403 Kale Adams Road, Leavittsburg 44430, or any Huntington Bank in her name.

CLUB HOLDS FUNDRAISER: The East Ohio Lapidary Club will host a holiday artisan show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Johnson Community Center, 800 Gillmer Road, Leavittsburg. Admission and parking is free. There will be one raffle ticket given at the door with a food donation to benefit Project Be Somebody. There will be demonstrations on site.

BOOK GROUP HOSTS EVENT: First Book-Trumbull County is hosting a vendor fair fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Children's Rehabilitation Center, 885 Howland Wilson Road. Many local vendors will display their products. First Book provides new books to children in need. For more information, call Ellen Finan at 330-399-8807.

DEADLINE APPROACHES FOR STORY EVENT: Storytime with Mrs. Claus for children ages 3 to 9 is being planned for 12:30 to 2 or 3:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2 and 3:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Harriet Taylor Upton House, 380 Mahoning Ave. A group session for youth groups or scout troops is available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2. Mrs. Claus will read stories to children. There will pictures taken, a craft and light refreshments.
