BROOKFIELD - Aloys G. Martin, 86, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on Jan. 20, 1926, in Sharon, Pa., the son of Anthony and Mary Paulovich Bielobockie.
A true American, Al served proudly in this country's Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a radioman third class aboard the USS Fanshaw Bay. For his service, he received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Following his discharge, he went on to marry the former Helen C. Gleydura on Sept. 11, 1948, with whom he would go on to share 64 years of marriage and their five children.
Al was a carpenter and welder by trade and also retired from Packard as a millwright with more than 25 years of service.
He enjoyed gardening around his home, polka dancing and playing cards with his grandchildren. An avid hunter, one of his greatest joys was traveling to his cabin in the Pennsylvania mountains, where he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He leaves behind his beloved wife; five children, Karl (Vicki) Martin of Hartford, Illona (John) Bulmer of Hubbard, Michael (Rene) Martin and John (Brenda) Martin, both of Brookfield, and Paul Martin of Jamestown, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason, Jeffery, Julie, Jennifer, Kevin, Rachel, Jacob, Katelin and Andrew; and three great-granddaughters, Gabrielle, Grace and Lauren.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marilyn; seven brothers, Joseph, Steve, Cyril, Samuel, Rudolph, Ignatius and Isadore; and two sisters, Victoria and Mary.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, 6923 Warren-Sharon Road, Brookfield, OH 44403, 330-448-6969.
Closing prayers will begin at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle (St. Beradette Church) in Masury, with the Rev. Frank Zanni as Pastor.
Burial will follow at Brookfield Township Cemetery.
