Coroner issues ruling

in industrial accident

YOUNGSTOWN - The Mahoning County Coroner's Office says that a Niles man who was killed in an industrial accident Tuesday died of mechanical asphyxiation.

The death of John Tomlin, 21, at Extrudex on Mahoning Avenue in North Jackson is being ruled an accident, according to a news release from the Coroner's Office.

Jackson police Chief Carl Frost said Tomlin was killed after a set of metal racks fell on him.

Injured in the accident was Dallas Bright of Mecca, who was taken to the burn unit at Akron Children's Hospital. He was listed in good condition Thursday, a nursing supervisor said.

An investigation is ongoing, and an investigator from the Cleveland office of the Occupational Health and Safety Administrator is also looking into the case.

Kenny G concert

to aid Animal Welfare

YOUNGSTOWN - Musician Kenny G will appear at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Covelli Centre.

Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 9 and can be purchased at the Covelli Centre box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or at Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets will range from $32 to $52.

The Kenny G Holiday Tour 2012 is presented by the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County. The Animal Welfare League is raising funds to build a new facility in Vienna.

Red Cross volunteers work in Cleveland

WARREN - While volunteers from the Mahoning Valley Red Cross have not been called upon to help clean up the destruction left by Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast, two volunteers with one response vehicle have been working in Cleveland since Wednesday.

The volunteers are distributing food to those in the shelters who have experienced power outages. They will continue their work through Friday, according to Debbie Musser, administrative assistant at the Mahoning Valley Red Cross.

Bus trip scheduled

for inauguration

The Trumbull County African-American Achievers Association is sponsoring a bus trip to the presidential inauguration. The bus will depart Jan. 20, 2013, and return Jan. 22.

The trip includes lodging in Hanover, Md., sightseeing and a $15 casino voucher. The cost for two in a room is $321 each, for three in a room is $250 each, and for four in a room is $215 each. A $100 deposit is required by today, with the balance due Dec. 11.

Warren man jailed

on assault charge

WARREN - A city man was in Trumbull County Jail awaiting arraignment on a charge of felonious assault after an 86-year-old man said he was struck in the face with a brick.

Jeffrey A. Wells, 47, of Porter Street N.E., was arrested shortly after the incident Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, Albert R. Walters of Clearview Street N.W., told police he went to the Warren Family Mission about 3:45 p.m. to pick up his niece when he was attacked by a Wells with a brick near the intersection of Elm Road and Porter Street N.E.

According to police, Wells said that Walters and his niece owed him money - a claim that Walters and his niece denied. Wells went to a local hospital for treatment.
