DEAR EDITOR:
I am writing this in response to Al Haberstroh's letter Wednesday in the online version of the Tribune. Mr. Haberstroh takes issue with the 64th District State Rep. candidate Randy Law's position on education. I should point out for those who don't know that Mr. Law defeated Mr. Haberstroh in the March primary.
I think that Mr. Haberstroh's letter to editor was in reality sour grapes because the voters rejected him in favor of Mr. Law.
With regard to the issue Mr. Haberstroh raises in his letter, he complains that Mr. Law is not a friend to public education. Yet when Mr. Law was previously in the legislature, he voted to increase education funds in Ohio. I've noticed that Mr. Letson talks a lot about education. He extols the virtues of a good education ad nauseam whenever he speaks. However, when Mr. Letson was in the majority, he voted to cut the state's share of education funding. Like so many issues, Mr. Letson is all talk and no action on education.
Education is not the only issue we have facing this area. We have a problem with our septic rules that is helping to cripple our economy. Mr. Letson has done nothing while in office to help revoke the consent decree that binds us to stricter rules than the rest of the state. Mr. Law has promised to be relentless in this effort.
As the Tribune pointed out in its Sept. 30 endorsement of Mr. Law, he managed to get more done in two years while in the legislature previously, than Mr. Letson has done in six years. He worked tirelessly pass the landfill reform bill. He also sponsored the firefighter training bill and voted for the largest income tax cut in the state's history.
On Election Day, look at the records of both candidates and choose the better man: Randy Law.
