CAMPBELL - The Rev. Lonnie Kwajo Asim Simon, 87, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Northside Medical Center.

He was born March 23, 1925, in East Mulga, Ala., the son of William ''Pop'' and Tempie Haywood Simon.

The Rev. Simon was pastor emeritus of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he was named Pastor Emeritus. He was a member of the Youngstown Board of Education from 1972 to 1975.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1943 to 1946.

Survivors include his wife, the former Florence Ware; four children, Janet Write, Lonita Ross, the Rev. Kenneth L. Simon and Cynthia Layton; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Josie Monroe of Greenwich, Conn.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Bethel Baptist Church, Youngstown. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. A?spoken and musical tribute will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
