NILES - William "Bill" Stephens, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Northside Hospital.
He was born Dec. 19, 1931, in Mineral Ridge, the son of Hayden and Sara Stephens.
Bill was a 1950 graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and a 1964 graduate of the American Savings and Loan Institute.

He was the former president of Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Niles, retiring in 2007 after 55 years of service.
He was a charter member and trustee of the Niles Churches for Housing; a member of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Association; a member and past president of the Niles Kiwanis Club; past president of the Trumbull County Muscular Dystrophy Association; and he was a member and past treasurer of The First Christian Church of Niles.
Bill enjoyed bowling and golfing, especially with the O.S.L. League.
He was well-respected in the community and banking field. He'll be remembered for his quick wit and his kind, gentle soul. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Shirley Howells, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1956, and enjoyed 56 wonderful years together; his children, Jill (John) Miller of Howland, and Leslie (Judson) Millhon and Thomas (Susan), both of Columbus; his grandchildren, Ryan and Chelsea Miller, Michael Stephens, and Judson and Lydia Millhon; his sister, Ruth J. Wilson of Cortland; his sister-in-law, Jane Stephens of Long Island, N.Y.; his brother-in-law, David Howells of Cleveland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard "Dick" Stephens.
Family and friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church of Niles, where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to services.
The Stephens family has requested that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Association of Niles.
