WARREN - Helen L. Steele, 96, 1128 Wood Ave S.W., died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Community Skilled Health Care.
She was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Staunton, Va., the daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth White Steele. She lived in the Warren area most of her life.
Helen was educated at Warren Business College, Youngstown State University and Kent State University.

She was retired from Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
She was very active in the community, having run for 6th Ward Council. She was a lifetime record of positive leadership to civic organizations as a member of the Queen Esther Chapter 9 of Eastern Star, the Warren Civic League and the Girl Scouts. She served on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society's Trumbull County Chapter; was a member of the Advisory Board of the Focus Center; member of the Board of the Warren Urban League; Dt. Ruler of Jeptha Temple 195 of the Daughters of Elks; trustee of N.D.C. Dt. Elks; Treasurer of the Ohio State Association Dt. Elks; vice president of Past Presidents Auxiliary; and Past Grand Dt. Ruler of Grand Temple of Elks.
She was also an active member of Second Baptist Church for more than 80 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise "Bunny" Steele of Warren; nephew, Wilbert Johnson Jr. of Warren; and two nieces, Elayne A. Johnson of Georgia and Brenda J. Gooden of Michigan.
A service of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Services were entrusted to Sibley-Murray Funeral Home.
