DEAR EDITOR:
Neither President Obama nor Gov. Romney has made much reference to the 2nd Amendment during the campaign. Only one question during the second debate prompted a response dealing with firearms. Both the president and the governor lightly touched on the issue and then went off on a tangent.
The one point they did agree on was the existing laws we already have needed to be enforced. President Obama feels we need more laws neutering our 2nd Amendment rights. If you think the gangs and gun violence in Youngstown and Warren are bad now, look at the president's hometown of Chicago as an example of what happens when the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens are stifled. His patronizing comments during the 2008 election about small towns in Pennsylvania and Ohio being bitter and clinging to guns and religion should not be forgotten.
This election will also determine the future of the Supreme Court. Our current Supreme Court justices tend to be slightly conservative in their rulings, but have been liberal on their decisions based on one swing vote. Depending on who you believe, anywhere from one to three of the justices could be appointed by our next president. If Obama is re-elected, our Supreme Court will take a liberal swing based on his appointments. Then, our 2nd Amendment rights will be in serious jeopardy for many years to come, maybe forever.
