DEAR EDITOR:
As we near Election Day I would hope that we the people stay mindful of where we have come from so we can know where we are going. On Jan. 11, 1962, our President John F. Kennedy stated, "Members of Congress, the Constitution makes us not rivals for power but partners for progress. We are all trustees for the American people, custodians of the American Heritage. It is my task to report the State of the Union, to improve it is the task of us all."
Too many of our elected officials have forgotten that. Remember when you cast your vote this election: Is this candidate a partner for progress? In 2005, I had the privilege to work with State Rep. Randy Law on the largest landfill reform bill in the history of Ohio. I watched Mr. Law stand against both parties and successfully pass this legislation. It was through Law's tenacious, tireless efforts that no other communities will have to endure the effects of CD&D landfills as did the community of Leavittsburg.
Our district faces many critical issues including septic problems, the gas well drilling and keeping our communities safe, and employment. Most may think all these are issues that seem monumental? I assure you they are no more monumental than the landfill reform issue that everyone thought was an impossible dream that Law made a reality. Randy Law is our partner for progress.
