Park to benefit from hayrides

HAUNTED HAYRIDES TO HELP PARK: The ''After Dark in the Park'' haunted hayride will be held at 7 p.m. to midnight today and Saturday at LaBrae Athletic Club ballfields. Admission is $8 and parking is free.

The event is being sponsored by Project Be Somebody, which is planning to complete the second phase of the playground at Banks Park in Braceville. The organization is holding events raise $13,000.

The 7 p.m. hayride is not scary.

CHURCH HOSTS LEADERSHIP EVENT: New Jerusalem Fellowship, 2555 Palmyra Road, Warren, will present a ''Leadership Dynamics for the 21st Century'' seminar and workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Donation is $5.

The speaker is the Rev. Avery Danage, an ordained Baptist minister, who serves as associate professor at Tri-State Bible College.

MISSION TO DISTRIBUTE PRODUCE: In conjunction with Second Harvest Food Bank, the Warren Family Mission is holding a fresh produce giveaway from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the 361 Elm Road location.

PARK FEST SET: Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church in Niles will host a free communitywide fall park fest from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Wick Park in Youngstown. The event will include music, balloons, inflatables, face painting, pumpkin decorating and prize giveaways. For information, call 330-539-6582, Ext. 108.

JFK HOLDS OPEN HOUSE: John F. Kennedy Catholic School will host the annual fall open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Upper Campus, 2550 Central Parkway S.E., Warren. There will be a 30-minute presentation at 4:30 p.m. regarding academics, admission and special programming as well as a tour. There will also be a trunk-or-treat Halloween party from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with games and entertainment.

BOOK SIGNING BY AUTHOR: Dawn Maxwell and her daughter, Kaleigh, will take part in a book signing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Halloween Horror Expo at Eastwood Mall Expo Center. The two have had their book, ''Ultimate Blood,'' published.

EVENT INCLUDES HALLOWEEN SPECTACULAR: A Halloween spectacular family concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. N.E., Warren. The Warren Philharmonic Orchestra will hold an instrumental petting zoo and display prize-winning art by school children.

RETRO DANCE PLANNED: A free retro night dance party, ''Rockin' Out at the Episcopal," will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. today at Christ Episcopal Church, Warren. The evening festivities will start with an Evensong worship service at 6 p.m., led by the Rev. J. Jeffrey Baker. Those attending can come dressed in 1960s and '70s outfits. CLEANUP SET IN NEIGHBORHOOD: Take Back the Neighborhood is in need of volunteers to help clean up trash, mow and brush-hog vacant properties from North Park Avenue to Chestnut and High Street to Washington N.E. The group will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the rear parking lot of the law offices of Frank R. Bodor.

BENEFIT TO HELP MAN: A benefit to help Bruce Gaugkler, who is battling cancer and needs out-of-town treatment, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Church in Warren. The event will include a dinner and Chinese auction. Tickets are $6.50 for adults and $2.50 for children.
